Why visit Plitvice Lakes?

Prepare for the most beautiful sights, where nature remains unspoiled and captivating. Clear waters, waterfalls cascading from one lake to another, surrounded by lush forests, wild animals, and fresh air create the wonder of Plitvice Lakes.

Plitvice Lakes is a complex of 16 lakes of various sizes that flow into one another, divided by travertine barriers. Algae, mosses, and plants create an extraordinary palette, coloring the lakes in all shades of green and blue. The travertine formations, essential in the creation of the lakes, take centuries to form, adding to the uniqueness of this natural wonder.

The park is home to rich flora and fauna, including the famous Brown Bear, various fish, birds, and other smaller forest animals. Endemic plant species make the lakes even more valuable.

These natural marvels led to the declaration of Plitvice Lakes National Park in 1949 and its inclusion as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

Excursion by Romeo&Juliet

Your guide will lead you through the Upper and Lower lakes, exploring by foot and by boat, getting up close to the lakes and waterfalls, including the impressive 78-meter-high Big Waterfall.

Difficulty:

Plitvice Lakes is our largest and oldest national park. The tour involves a lot of walking, including uphill and downhill paths with many steps, so it is not wheelchair accessible.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes (not flip flops)
  • Layered clothing
  • Raincoat in case of rain, as the park is in a mountainous area
